General
The FarSightNet Document Conferencing System allows two or more users to view, discuss
orally, and annotate almost all forms of digital documents in a shared-screen environment.
The users are connected through a server by any common computer network including the
Internet (see below). The most obvious use of the system is in a scenario that
requires intense review and discussion of documents, in real time, where the participants
need not be in the same location.
Applications:
Education:
For the fast-growing education form called online or distance learning, FarSightNet
provides the critical essence of a "face-to-face" interaction which is absent
in current
on-line teaching methods which employ email and chat-room discussions. The system
includes direct Voice-Over-Internet-Protocol (VOIP) for voice communication, which is
free of telephone usage charges. Document manipulation and annotation is in real-time
with all conferees seeing annotation changes immediately. The interaction can be between
a teacher and student(s) and also among class members. The system is a powerful teaching
tool that solves the economic and convenience issues of higher education today while
maintaining the immediacy of traditional learning. FarSightNet is not an educational
management system but is for use directly in the virtual classroom to capture the
fundamental nature of teaching.
Legal:
For those lawyerly activities involving the review, mark-up and negotiation of legal
documents, FarSightNet is a tool that saves travel expenses and un-billable time
while permitting remote conferencing virtually as effective as face-to-face meetings.
With FarSightNet, lawyers can speak to other lawyers or clients at a remote location(s)
while each party simultaneously views the same document on his/her computer screen.
Professional Services:
The many standard features of FarSightNet, including magnification and zoom capability,
graph paper overlays, contrast/brightness adjustment, give FarSightNet the versatility
to serve in a wide variety of applications.
